We caught up with Mary Foote, MD, MPH, at IDWeek to ask how she got “Hooked on ID.”
Foote is an infectious diseases physician and medical director at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
“I was always a very happy child but had a little bit of a morbid interest in historical outbreaks. Those were my favorite bedtime stories,” Foote said. “I was really fascinated that a teeny, tiny virus or bacteria could change the course of history.”
Watch the video to hear how Foote turned her childhood fascination into a career on the front lines of New York City’s disease outbreak response.
