Houston is making space for the largest microbial sciences conference in the world.
ASM Microbe, the flagship meeting of the American Society for Microbiology, will be held from June 15 to 19 at Houston’s George E. Brown Convention Center and the Hilton Americas Houston.

Andy Weir, author of the best-selling novel “The Martian,” will be interviewed by NASA microbiologist and astronaut Kate Rubins, PhD, in a keynote lecture titled “Microbes in Space.” Rubins previously spoke to Healio about the infectious diseases that astronauts can carry into space.
During the president’s forum, ASM president Colleen Kraft, MD, MSc, will speak with US Global AIDS Coordinator and Special Representative for Health Diplomacy John Nkengasong, PhD, MSc, University of Lagos Vice Chancellor Folasade Ogunsola, PhD, and “virus hunter” Edward Holmes, Ph.D. about the origins of SARS-CoV-2.
As with last year’s return to an in-person meeting, there is a digital component this year for people who cannot attend in person.
Although masking and proof of COVID-19 vaccination are not required for this year’s meeting, organizers have asked attendees to attest that they have not been diagnosed with or tested positive for COVID-19 or had close contact with someone who has COVID-19 in the previous 5 days.
