New Delhi: Any form of fat – be it visceral or subcutaneous – is a dangerous possession that raises the risk of major health crises ranging from obesity to diabetes and other metabolic woes. Visceral fat is one that accumulates inside the body and wraps itself around essential organs, majorly around the abdominal region.

On one hand, workouts and diet could offer a way out of visceral fat woes, a new research has credited a particular spice for not only fat-burning effects but also cancer-fighting abilities. How to burn visceral fat with spices?

According to research published in the BMC Obesity peer-reviewed journal, a spice that was credited with belly fat burning effects, it is chilli peppers. The fat-burning effects of chilli peppers are credited to capsaicinoids – a compound that enhances metabolism in the body.

For this study, 75 healthy people were randomly given a placebo and 2mg or 4mg of capsaicinoids. They were evaluated with respect to the percentage of body fat before the trial started and at the end of it. After a 12-week trial, the group that was given 4mg of capsaicinoids had 5.91 per cent lower body fat as opposed to the placebo reading. Their body fat percentage then dropped to 6.68 per cent. Therefore, experts concluded that capsaicinoids are particularly beneficial in burning fat mass.

Researchers said that despite the satisfying results, more studies are required in this area to explore the physiological, metabolic and pharmacological benefits of acute and chronic capsaicinoids intake.

What are the other benefits of consuming chilli peppers?

As per the American Heart Associate, the benefits of consuming chilli peppers are not limited to fat-burning properties and weight loss. The same ingredient can significantly lower heart disease risk and is also associated with fewer cancer deaths.

Experts further elaborated that consuming chilli peppers can lower the risk of death by heart disease by 26 per cent – ​​and these results were based on an analysis of mortality data from international studies. Chilli pepper intake is also linked to a 23 per cent reduced cancer deaths as opposed to the people who do not consume this spicy condiment at all.
