Ultra-low dose combination lowers systolic blood pressure in hypertension

Subjects ” General neurology

HealthDay News – In adults with high blood pressure, initial treatment with a single pill containing fixed-dose quadruple-quarter-dose combination therapy provides greater reductions in systolic blood pressure compared to standard-dose monotherapy, according to an Aug. 29 in The. Lancet study published online on the occasion of the European Society of Cardiology Congress 2021: The Digital Experience, which will take place virtually from August 27th to 30th.

Clara K. Chow, Ph.D., of the University of Sydney and colleagues randomly assigned untreated or monotherapy Australian adults with high blood pressure to treatment that began with the quad pill (extremely low doses of irbesartan , Amlodipine, indapamide and bisoprolol). ) or an indistinguishable monotherapy (standard dose irbesartan) (300 and 291 patients, respectively). In both groups, additional medication could be added if the blood pressure did not meet the target value.

The researchers found that after 12 weeks, 15 and 40 percent of patients in the intervention and active control groups received additional blood pressure medication, respectively. The systolic blood pressure was 6.9 mm Hg lower in the intervention group and the blood pressure control rates were higher (76 versus 58 percent; relative risk 1.30). No difference in treatment-related adverse event discontinuation at 12 weeks was seen between the groups.
