The combined treatment of heart failure and depression can improve mHRQOL

HealthDay News – Heart failure (HF) patients receiving mixed collaborative care report significantly better mental quality of life and mood after 12 months compared to those receiving normal, according to a study published online Aug. 30 in JAMA Internal Medicine Received care.

Bruce L. Rollman, MD, of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and colleagues evaluated whether a mixed collaborative care program for the treatment of HI and depression could improve clinical outcomes more than either or collaborative care for HI only (extended usual care) the usual supply. The analysis included 756 participants with HF with a reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (<45 percent).

The researchers found that after 12 months, the participants in blended care reported an improvement in the summary of the mental components of the 12-item short-form health survey over the usual care, but similar values ​​as the collaborative care for the HF group only. There were also significant improvements in mood among mixed care participants over standard care and collaborative care for HR only groups. However, physical function, RF pharmacotherapy use, re-admissions, and mortality were similar for both baseline depression and randomization status.
