Teacher Belinda Norton Reveals Five Secrets To Boosting Your Metabolism To Stay Lean

A physical education teacher revealed the five secrets of increasing her metabolism after her digestive system “began to shake dramatically” at the age of 44.

Belinda Norton of the Gold Coast said she noticed that her waistline was widening and she could not eat as much as before without gaining weight.

She attributed this to the daily stress of caring for two teenagers, having less free time, and being single and up-to-date – which meant Belinda drank more and didn’t necessarily eat healthy.

But then the 44-year-old discovered that a slower metabolism was to blame and has since found five things that can make her digestive system burn and prevent weight gain.

A PE teacher has revealed the “magical metabolic boost” she swears by after her digestive system “dramatically staggered” at 44 (Belinda Norton pictured).

The first thing Belinda said has helped her metabolism tremendously is daily sessions of active resistance weights (see Training).

What is Metabolism and How Does It Work?

* Metabolism refers to all of the chemical processes that are ongoing in your body that enable life and normal function (maintaining normal function in the body is called homeostasis).

* These processes include those that break down nutrients from our food and those that build and repair our bodies.

* The amount of calories or kilojoules your body burns at any given time is affected by your metabolism.

* Your metabolic rate is affected by many factors – including age, gender, muscle-to-fat ratio, physical activity, and hormonal function.

1. Try resistance work

The first thing Belinda said that helped her metabolism tremendously is sessions of active resistance weights.

“When we lift weights, microscopic damage occurs to the myofibrils in the muscle fiber,” Belinda wrote on her website.

‘These micro-cracks stimulate the body’s repair response. The body supplies increased nutrients in the blood flow to stimulate muscle cells to repair.

“The increased number of myofibrils leads to rapid muscle inflammation and increases metabolism.”

This means that weight training increases your daily metabolic rate, and someone who exercises weight will have a much higher resting metabolic rate than someone who doesn’t.

Belinda said the best way to improve your metabolism is to vary your weight routine as much as possible.

She likes to incorporate board pushups, lunges, squats, tummy taps, and core rotations into her regimen.

The 44 year old also shared an ideal workout for someone over 40.

The second way Belinda said she improved her metabolism is by factoring in high-intensity exercise jumps like running intervals with walking (pictured on a walk).

2. Add high intensity exercises

The second way Belinda said she’s improved her metabolism is by including high-intensity exercise bursts into her daily regimen.

“Aerobics can also speed up our metabolism,” said Belinda.

‘The key is to increase the intensity with speed variance. A high-intensity exercise leads to an increase in the resting metabolic rate as opposed to low or moderate workouts. ‘

Belinda changes an intense power walk with running intervals and takes bike courses in the gym.

She usually uses her mornings for a walk or a HIIT session, and does 40-minute strength training in the afternoons to help boost the ultimate metabolism.

What is an example of an ideal workout for over 40s?

Push up with the row of planks and climbing plants x 10

Walking lunges x 20

Squat x 15 press

Split squats x 10 per leg

Sumo squat x 10 per leg

Wide leg roosters x 10

Belly toe tapping x 20

Core twist x 20

Step-ups x 10 per leg

Flutter occurs x 30

To “spark” even better, do a 3-4 minute run and walk (set your timer) between the set OR at the end of 3 laps.

3. Drink lots of water

Water is key to supporting your metabolism.

Not only does it “flush toxins out of the body,” it also prevents our metabolism from slowing down due to dehydration.

Belinda said she usually has a glass of water before and after every meal and snack. This will help ensure that she is always well hydrated.

What are the best foods for your diet?

* Seasoning

* Lean protein with every meal

* Black coffee

* Green or Oolong tea

4. Add the right nutritional elements

Optimizing your diet in your forties when your metabolism is slowing is key to staying lean, fit, and healthy.

Belinda has cut highly processed foods entirely, added flavoring to their diet, and loaded some form of lean protein into every meal.

“Adding black coffee to my diet has increased my metabolism in the short term, while drinking green tea or oolong tea is also beneficial as it has the combined benefits of caffeine and has been shown to speed up metabolism,” Belinda said .

5. Add a progesterone booster

Finally, Belinda said she used a Bio-Nutrient Progresterone Booster from the Byron Compounding Chemist for a few months to help produce the correct levels of testosterone in her body.

She said this has been of great benefit to her but recommends that you contact the Byron Compounding team for more information.
