Yes it happens. A 5.7 acre site in Cockburn will soon house a brand new, state-of-the-art wave park valued at $ 80 million, with WA Aventurur government approving construction last week.
the The epic New Wave Park will be the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere, with the park’s surfing lagoon pumping 25 different waves to suit surfers of all abilities – from knee-high whitewater waves for beginners to everyday pointbreak waves Mick Fannings.
Besides offering killer waves all year round, the new Wavepark will also help the West Aussies realize their surfing dreams and connect with other surf fanatics with personalized coaching, fitness and surf skate programs, surfboard shaping courses , regular boardrider club rounds and even one or two outdoor surf film nights and a photo exhibition. There are also adventures for non-surfers such as yoga, meditation retreats, live music and cultural festivals on the agenda.
Also planned as part of the development is a boutique surf hotel, health and wellness center, event space, beach club and restaurants – creating an innovative new surf, leisure and entertainment center just a short drive south of the CBD and with easy access via the Cockburn Railway Line.
Aventurur is now working with the WA government to finalize commercial agreements before ticking off any required development permit requirements. But to make sure everything goes as planned, they hope to start construction in late 2022 for a public opening in 2024.
