New President of the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery announced

Dr. Michael Chen was named 26th President of the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery (SNIS) on August 10, 2021, according to a press release.

Dr. Chen is a neurointerventionalist at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, has practiced medicine for more than 14 years, and is a professor of neurology, neurosurgery, and radiology. His work focuses on minimally invasive treatments for vascular diseases of the brain and spinal cord.

In his new role, Dr. Chen lead projects to further develop minimally invasive neuroendovascular care. “We know there are huge differences in our profession and in the way our patients get access to treatment,” he said. “Addressing this will be a focus of our work this year.”

Dr. Chen is also the senior editor of the Journal of NeuroInterventional Surgery (JNIS) and works with several patient advocacy foundations, including the Niekro Foundation and the Bee Foundation.

Dr. J. Mocco is currently the Society’s elected President, Dr. Mahesh V. Jayaraman was elected Vice President and Dr. Jenny Tsai was elected First Chair for Diversity, Justice and Inclusion.

Together, the SNIS board plans to advance the field of neurointerventional surgery through initiatives such as the SNIS Foundation, the Get Ahead of Stroke campaign and JNIS.

Dr. Chen added, “Our society is inherently multidisciplinary and multi-specialized, which enables us not only to question what we know, but to really explore what we don’t already know. Ultimately, being part of this society makes us all better doctors and better people. “
