The future of burnout prevention among doctors depends on breaking old thought patterns and using new technologies to not only optimize well-being, but also to redesign personalized precision medicine.

“One of my favorite keys from a conference comes from NHS Innovation, where they shared this old quote: The difficulty is not in the new ideas, but in escaping the old ones (John Maynard Keynes, The general employment theory 1935), ” Daniel Kraft, MD, Chair of Medicine at Singularity University and founder of Exponential Medicine, said. “How we structure medicine, medical education and mental health for our colleagues and our patients is sometimes stuck in very old thought patterns. We have to break this open in the future to help with burnout and to take care of our supervisors. “

Quote from Daniel Kraft

In the same way that poor diet, smoking, stress, and sleep behaviors lead to most chronic illnesses in patients, these similar risky behaviors can be identified among other caregivers and help prevent burnout among doctors in the first place. The use of new technologies such as wearable devices that measure each element can provide better feedback to tailor a more personalized approach to management. While the potential of this newly invented technology is astronomical, measuring everything from heart rate to AI-identified biomarkers for mental health through speech recognition, the basic goal remains the same: optimized resilience, optimized wellbeing, and optimized early detection.

“Nobody is there for everyone, just as caring for our patients requires intelligent design thinking. “The future of healthcare is in harnessing new technology and how we use creative exponential thinking to improve support not only for patients but also for our healthcare systems. … The best way to predict the future of health medicine and clinical self-care is not to predict it, but to shape it together. “
