How to Live Longer: The Best Time to Eat to Lower Blood Sugar and Promote Longevity
The development of type 2 diabetes can begin with the pancreas not being able to supply enough or sufficient insulin, but there are external processes that can help or hinder. Advanced research, published in the journal The Endocrine Society, suggests that the time of day you eat can have an impact on blood sugar levels. “We found that people who started eating earlier in the day had lower blood sugar levels and less insulin resistance,” said lead researcher Dr. Marriam Ali.
From Northwestern University in Chicago, Dr. Ali stated that her results were independent of restrictive diets.
“With the rise in metabolic disorders like diabetes, we wanted to broaden our understanding of nutritional strategies to address this growing concern,” Ali told other researchers.
At the annual meeting of the Virtual Endocrine Society, Dr. Ali their results.
When analyzing the data from 10,575 adults, participants were divided into one of three groups based on the total length of food consumed.

Those who ate before 8:30 a.m. had less insulin resistance no matter how many hours they ate throughout the day.
“These results suggest that timing is more related to metabolic action than duration and supports early eating strategies,” said Ali.
If you can manage to lower your blood sugar – which is also possible through regular exercise and a healthy diet – you can prevent illness.
Constantly high blood sugar has been linked to heart disease.
This includes breaking free from unhelpful habits like smoking, inactivity, or too much alcohol.
It’s also imperative to get good quality eye protection, wear sunscreen, and get regular health checkups.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says these measures can help prevent:
- diabetes
- obesity
- depression
- cancer
- Heart disease
- High blood pressure.
