Free meditation class in Coquitlam to reflect on Iran

The Meditation For World Peace event at Jai Yoga Studio is to bring awareness to the plight of Iranian women.

A Coquitlam yoga business is inviting the public to take a stand on Iranian women’s rights at a free meditation class this weekend.

Jai Yoga Studio, located at 1140 Austin Ave., is offering the 75-minute session this Sunday (Nov. 13) led by instructor Sahej Bhatia.

In a release, Bhatia, who is married to an Iranian, said her Meditation For World Peace event is to bring awareness to the plight of Iranian women who, along with men, are rising up against authorities following the murder of Mahsa Amini.

In September, the 22-year-old woman was arrested by The Guidance Patrol, a religious morality arm of the Iranian government, for failing to wear a hijab properly, according to government standards. She died in police custody.

“The Iranian community is tired of fighting and they feel unseen,” Bhatia said in the release.

“Me and Jai Yoga Studio want to make a stand for them. For Freedom. For women. For love of humanity‚Ķ.The people in the Iranian community are tired of fighting for this. They have been fighting for women’s freedom since 1979. What’s happening now is the last straw.”

Jai Yoga Studio co-owner Prem Kaur said it’s important to take time out to reflect on the revolution now happening in Iran, and to regenerate.

The class is scheduled for Sunday at 11:30 am, and space is limited for Meditation For World Peace.

To book a spot, you’re encouraged to call 778-952-6420, visit Jai Yoga Studio’s website or email
