Fitness center owner to close gym, switch to online classes, nutrition consulting – SiouxFalls.Business

Dec 29, 2021

As the pandemic decimated her fitness center, Teri Katzenberger pulled herself out of her funk and decided to redesign her life and the future of her business.

She’s closing The Master’s Club – Fitness & Lifestyle Wellness at 41st Street and Elmwood Avenue at the end of the year but will offer online workouts and consulting on nutrition and weight management.

The Master’s Club will become a health and wellness program for men, and Katzenberger is restarting She’s Shapin’ Up Fitness & Weight Management for Women, a fitness business she owned two decades ago.

“I just love doing that, she said of guiding women out of the cycle of losing and regaining weight. “I’ll coach them to stop the dieting and teach them how to eat.”

The Master’s Club also will continue to offer nutritional supplements for men and women.

As the early days of the pandemic all but shut down The Master’s Club in spring 2020, Katzenberger held out hope that the vaccine would restore her clients’ comfortability with returning to the fitness center, which she opened in 2017.

“I was sure that everyone would come back … but people just aren’t coming back. With the fitness industry, we also get in our comfort zone if we’ve been gone too long. With this situation, people are doing things at home. People don’t rush back to the gym.”

She began to despair.

“It’s been devastating. 2021 has just about crippled me mentally. You think you are strong, but oh boy, that about did me in. It has been tough,” Katzenberger said. “It just breaks my heart that they money isn’t there. I can’t keep the doors open.”

Katzenberger teamed up with a business coach and mentor, and knowing that she wanted to continue her passion of helping people “live a healthy, well, fit, strong, whole life from the inside,” she decided to relaunch her business in a new form .

She has created an online fitness club instead of a brick-and-mortar one. She’ll record exercise classes from her home, and participants can use them whenever it’s convenient. The classes will incorporate an exercise ball, hand weights, aerobics and stretching.

She’s Shapin’ Up will offer memberships or classes by the session or on a virtual punch card.

Katzenberger will use an online forum to teach her nutrition classes, with offerings through Zoom or on demand. Personal accountability sessions will be offered once a week through Zoom.

It’s a 12-week program that she created in 2004 that teaches “meal planning, grocery store shopping, things like that.”

While she considers herself tech-savvy, “it took me while to grasp how I could do what I do virtually. It’s working out well,” she said of the online classes she started doing for The Master’s Club and her initial online coaching that she called Tuesdays With Teri.

The new fitness offerings for women will launch Jan 13 at shesshapinup.com. Those who are interested in nutrition guidance can reach out to Katzenberger through shesshapinup.club.

The men’s health and wellness program will start later in the year.
