Emergency Status Reactivated At Inova Due To Rising COVID Cases

FAIRFAX, VA — Inova Health System, a network of hospitals in Northern Virginia, announced it reactivated emergency status as of 5 pm Monday, Jan. 3 due to rising COVID-19 cases and patient volumes.

The health system said it was equipped to handle the COVID-19 cases and patient volumes. The emergency status gives Inova flexibility to adapt its operations in response to the changing trends. Inova reopened its COVID-19 Coordination Center and hospital command centers with staffing seven days a week. The centers feature a team of clinical, infection prevention, emergency management and other staff key to Inova’s pandemic response.

“Our patients can be assured that Inova is equipped to handle the current surge, as we have done over the past two years, and we have the resources to continue providing seamless, world-class care to our community,” Inova said in a news release.

Inova encouraged residents to avoid the emergency rooms for COVID-19 testing if they are asymptotic or have mild symptoms. Inova is prioritizing patients with critical medical needs in the ER. The health system also encourages COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters if eligible, as well as measures like indoor masking and social distancing.

Testing sites can be found using the Virginia Department of Health’s search tool. Inova Health System recently opened vehicle-side testing by appointment for symptomatic individuals only at 2990 Telestar Ct., Falls Church, VA. The site offers PCR testing with results in 24 to 48 hours.

Another testing option is contacting a primary care provider. Inova Urgent Care locations can also provide testing after evaluation from a provider.

Inova has hospitals in Fairfax, Fair Oaks, Alexandria, Mount Vernon and Loudoun County, along with other facilities around Northern Virginia.
