DayTwo, a maker of nutritional advice apps based on gut bacteria, brings in $ 37 million
Israeli startup DayTwo, whose app provides tailored dietary recommendations based on an analysis of gut bacteria, has raised $ 37 million to continue developing its technologies.
The company’s app is designed to help improve the health of people with diabetes and other metabolic diseases.
DayTwo’s existing investors took part in the current financing round – including the aMoon VC fund from Marius Nacht and Dr. Yair Schindel, 10D by Yahal Zilka, and Cathay Innovation Ventures. They were joined by new investors, including Poalim Capital Markets, La’maison Fund and Micron Ventures.
Including this round, the startup, founded in 2015, has raised $ 85 million from investors to date, DayTwo said in a statement.

The app, which is used by 70,000 consumers in Israel and the US, is based on research and technology developed at the Weizmann Institute by Professors Eran Segal and Eran Elinav. The solution uses artificial intelligence, gut microbiome sequencing, and other clinical measures to create precise, nutrition-based food recipes to help balance blood sugar levels after meals.

“DayTwo has the world’s largest database of microbiomes containing medical, nutritional, behavioral and in-depth genetic sequencing of gut bacteria from tens of thousands of people,” said Adi Lev, DayTwo deputy chief executive officer for research and development. “The fundraising will fund continued research into the links between bacteria in our bodies and other diseases, as well as the development of new algorithms to deliver new scientific discoveries that will provide proven clinical results.”
The current round of funding comes after the company demonstrates the clinical effects of decreased blood sugar levels and reduced prescription drug costs on participants in the DayTwo program in the United States.
As a result, DayTwo is working with employers and health plans in the US market. In the Israeli market, the company is working with health care provider Clalit Health Services, which offers its members the DayTwo solution, and the company expects a similar collaboration with Maccabi Health Services, the startup said in a statement.
“Our solution results in a significant and rapid reduction in healthcare costs due to a reduction in prescription drugs, fewer doctor visits, less complex surgical procedures with accompanying complications in diabetes and metabolic diseases,” said Lihi Segal, CEO and founder of DayTwo. “We will continue to invest resources, expand our development center in Israel and bring in experienced developers to step up our gut bacteria research and develop additional solutions with real clinical implications.”
DayTwo was founded by Nacht, one of the founders of cybersecurity company Check Point Software Technologies Ltd., along with Segal, the CEO, and Yuval Ofek.
