AMA: 96% of doctors fully vaccinated against COVID-19

HealthDay News – According to a survey by the American Medical Association (AMA), 96 percent of doctors are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The survey was developed by the AMA and was sent to 301 doctors, including 150 general practitioners (PCPs) and 151 medical specialists, from June 3-8, 2021 to determine current COVID-19 vaccination rates.

According to the survey, 96 percent of doctors are fully vaccinated against COVID-19; 64, 34 and 2 percent had received Pfizer BioNTech, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson / Janssen vaccines, respectively. Of the 11 doctors who were not vaccinated, five planned to get vaccinated. Concerns that the vaccine is too new and could have unknown long-term effects were the most common reasons for not receiving the vaccine. No significant differences in physician vaccination rates between demographic groups were observed, including PCP versus specialist, region, gender, age, and race; There was a significant difference in vaccination rates between Hispanics and non-Hispanics (84 percent versus 97 percent).

“Practicing physicians across the country are leading by example with amazing adoption of COVID-19 vaccines,” said Susan R. Bailey, MD, president of the AMA, in a statement. “Doctors and clinicians are uniquely positioned to listen to and validate patient concerns, and one of the strongest anecdotes a doctor can offer is that they were vaccinated themselves. You can take it from your doctor: the COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective. “
