Most practicing physicians surveyed in the United States said they were fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with no significant differences in vaccination by gender, age, or geographic location, according to the AMA.
The organization conducted the survey from June 3-8. About 300 doctors took part in the survey; half of them were general practitioners.

Although vaccination rates were largely similar across demographic groups, there was a significant difference between Hispanic and non-Hispanic respondents (84% vs. 97%).
Most doctors received the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine (64%), followed by the Moderna vaccine (34%) and the Johnson & Johnson / Janssen vaccine (2%).
Of the 11 unvaccinated doctors who participated in the survey, five said they were receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. The AMA said the most common reason for not vaccinating is that the COVID-19 vaccine “is too new and has unknown long-term effects”.
With more than 96% of doctors saying they were fully vaccinated, the data shows a 20% increase in vaccinated doctors compared to a survey by Medscape last month, according to an AMA press release.
“Practicing physicians across the country are leading by example with amazing adoption of COVID-19 vaccines,” AMA President Susan R. Bailey, MD, said in the publication. “Doctors and clinicians are uniquely positioned to listen to and validate patient concerns, and one of the strongest anecdotes a doctor can offer is that they were vaccinated themselves.”
