8 easy and delicious mocktails and cocktail ideas

Are you looking for simple and delicious non-alcoholic cocktails or cocktails with a more balanced twist? Here are 8 easy alcohol-free recipes to try.

No matter what time of year, in summer or on vacation, enjoying drinks becomes a social activity that many of us encounter more often. If you’re trying to be more alcohol conscious and want to make healthier barter deals, or if you’re looking for tasty soft drinks then let’s dive in.

How to make a healthy cocktail

While there are some fun cocktail recipes to try out, it can be a little harder to find one that isn’t filled with added sugar.

Ingredients like sugar syrup, concentrate juice, and pre-made cocktail mixes are the common culprits. By exchanging these ingredients, reducing the amount of these ingredients or using freshly squeezed juices, real fruits, herbs, you keep the same good taste and do without the high sugar content.

As with anything else, alcohol is about moderation. It is possible to incorporate alcohol into a balanced and mindful lifestyle if you wish. With this in mind, it’s important to know your limits and understand how alcohol affects the body, both digestive and metabolic. We discuss alcohol in terms of health in our article Is Alcohol Unhealthy? Article if you want to read more on the subject.

8 delicious and easy cocktail recipes

Now for the good stuff! All of these cocktail recipes only make one serving. Note that you can enjoy these drinks with alcohol. Otherwise, we’ll also share our preferred non-alcoholic alternatives in every recipe so everyone can enjoy these drinks!

We love Ritual Zero Proof’s non-alcoholic cocktails because they’re delicious, great for all lifestyles, and versatile so you can enjoy any cocktail.

Using herbal botanicals to create incredible flavors that mimic your favorite spirits, Ritual Zero Proof offers an alternative to tequila, gin, whiskey and rum. The batches of their zero-proof spirits are individually distilled and microfiltered to maintain their purest taste. Each bottle is date stamped for freshness.

In addition, the simple stevia syrup is completely optional. If you don’t need the extra boost of sweetness, you can unsubscribe or switch to honey or maple syrup, whichever you like best.

Cucumber and mint twist

There is nothing more refreshing than a cucumber in summer! Not only does it taste great in a drink, cucumbers are about 96% water and full of antioxidants.

We’ve talked a lot about antioxidants here at NS, but just to give you a summary, our bodies need antioxidants to fight off free radicals. Different foods contain different antioxidants, but overall, antioxidants can help prevent conditions such as heart disease and some cancers. In short – they are the good guys.

Berry smash

If you like sweet, refreshing drinks this is for you. Berries are also full of antioxidants and quite a bit of fiber. When messed up, they’re a great way to add a nutritional boost to any drink.

The Berry Smash is the perfect summer cocktail or mocktail for your favorite summer salad, mine is the antioxidant Summer Salad!

Summer sangria

Sangria is a great way to change your usual glass of wine in the summer. Sangria is traditionally a wine punch from Spain. By swapping the usual red wine for an organic wine and the juice for kombucha or seltzer, we have a punch with fewer sulfites, minimal sugar and more antioxidants. This is a great quick read if you want to learn a little more about organic wine from a sommelier.

When it comes to the type of organic red wine used, stick with what you know! Sangria is extremely versatile. If you know you love a certain type of red wine, you will likely like it in sangria too.

The same goes for kombucha here. While it’s a great source of healthy bacteria (especially those from the lactic acid family) and contains some antioxidants as well, it isn’t for everyone. If you’re not a fan of kombucha alone, I wouldn’t recommend adding it to your sangria. Try seltzer water instead, unsweetened lemon seltzer water tastes great in this recipe!

Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle of organic red wine
  • 1 cup of strawberry kombucha (naturally sweetened) or 1 cup of unsweetened lemon selzer water
  • 1 lemon sliced
  • 2 small white peaches chopped
  • 1 lime sliced
  • 1 orange sliced
  • Unsweetened lemon seltzer water to finish

Directions:

  1. Put all ingredients, except for the seltzer water, in a large jug and chill for at least 4 hours (preferably overnight).
  2. It is optional to leave the fruit in the glass, otherwise you can strain the fruit and you will get what looks like red wine.
  3. When you are ready to serve, fill the wine glasses 3/4 full with sangria and then top up with lemon seltzer water.

Margarita

Simply prepared with lime juice and sugar syrup, this is a classic!

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces Ritual Zero Proof Tequila alternative
  • 1/2 ounce orange liqueur
  • 1 ounce lime juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1/2 ounce honey
  • Garnish: optional lime wedge and salt on half of the rim

Directions:

  1. Pour tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice and honey into a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake well chilled.
  2. Strain into a glass over ice.
  3. Garnish with a wedge of lime.

Strawberry and basil mojito

Add basil to everything and I’ll be all for it! Basil is a potent herb that can have anti-inflammatory properties, antimicrobial properties, and, as you guessed it, lots of antioxidants. Strawberries and mint are great additions, too. Mint, in particular, is great for indigestion and soothes an upset stomach.

I love that a traditional mojito doesn’t involve sifting – the mint leaves and lime are both kept in the drink for an extra nutritional boost. This summer cocktail or mocktail recipe is a little twist on the traditional mojito!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 lime cut into 4 wedges
  • 5 fresh mint leaves
  • 5 fresh basil leaves
  • 3 large strawberries
  • 1/2 ounce of plain stevia syrup
  • 1 ounce Ritual Zero Proof Rum Alternative
  • Seltzer water at the end

Directions:

  1. Put the mint leaves and 1 lime wedge in a shaker or mason jar. Mix the ingredients with a muddler or the end of a wooden spoon.
  2. Add 2 more lime wedges along with the basil, strawberries and simple stevia syrup and mix the ingredients again.
  3. Add rum and fill the shaker or mason jar with ice. Cap the tool you are using and shake it to combine.
  4. Pour the entire mixture into a glass and finally top up with seltzer water.
  5. Garnish with the remaining lime wedge and serve.

Grapefruit crush

While margaritas get a lot of praise in the summer cocktails and mocktails category, a variant of La Paloma is one of my personal favorites. The fresh grapefruit juice keeps it light and refreshing and at the same time exudes a light pink hue that screams for summer time.

This is my take on a healthy alternative to traditional La Paloma!

  • 1 ounce Ritual Zero Proof Tequila alternative
  • 1/2 ounce of freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 2 ounces of freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
  • 1 ounce of plain stevia syrup
  • Seltzer water at the end
  • Lime wedge for garnish

Directions:

  1. Pour tequila, lime juice, grapefruit juice, and stevia syrup into a shaker or mason jar and fill it with ice. Cap the tool you are using and shake it to combine.
  2. Strain the mixture into a glass and then add seltzer water.
  3. Garnish with a lime wedge and serve.
