“Now that we have the vaccine supply, our focus is on getting more Americans to show up and get the vaccines that are available to them,” Biden said.

In addition to giving at least one vaccine to 70% of adults, 160 million Americans are expected to be fully vaccinated by July 4th. The new phase would accomplish this by focusing on three groups:

  • Children ages 12 to 15, provided the FDA approves Pfizer BioNTech vaccine in that age group – a decision several reports suggest could be made as early as this week;
  • People who have had trouble finding a vaccine; and
  • People who are hesitant to vaccinate.

By May 3, more than 147 million Americans had received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, including more than 145 million adults, according to the CDC. More than 105 million Americans, most of them adults, have been fully vaccinated.
