Carlin Barnes, MD, Double-Board Certified Psychiatrist in Clinical Practice and Co-Founder of Healthy Mind MDs spoke with Healio Psychiatry about maintaining mental health during the holiday season in the COVID-19 era.

She shared tips to stave off feelings of loneliness and isolation related to social distancing measures and changed holiday gatherings this year. She also emphasized the importance of clinicians / psychiatrists taking care of themselves and taking care of patients as well.

“I want my mental health colleagues to think about self-care,” Barnes said. “Many of us have been on the front lines during this pandemic. That is why we want to be able to be there and be effective clinicians for our patients by offering compassionate and comprehensive care. But if we’re not doing well, then [our patients] don’t get good because we don’t give them our best. ”
